I upgraded and my Contact Details are not showing up properly

If you have recently upgraded or synced your Apple iPhone or iPad (using iOS 6.0 or higher) you may have the Contact Details disappear from the device.  Everything else has synced properly such as Calendar, Task List, Notes/History and the total number of Contacts.  But the Details to these records is not displayed.

For example, you open a contact and their First Name, Last Name and Company get shown but no telephone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.
